The New Mexico State Police said Ms. Casias\u2019 remains were found with a handgun nearby.<\/p>\n<p>Her disappearance is one of a series of missing persons cases over the last year connected to laboratories focused on classified nuclear weapons work and aerospace engineering.<\/p>\n<p>Her body was found in an area within driving distance of the city of Taos. The FBI recently opened an investigation into at least 10 missing scientists or lab employees. The FBI previously told The Washington Times that they are \u201cspearheading the effort to look for connections into the missing and deceased\u201d people.<\/p>\n<p>The New Mexico State Police said in a statement that the \u201ccause and manner of death have not yet been determined\u201d but that findings are part of an \u201cextensive investigation, which remains active and ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Casias went missing in June 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI previously told The Times that it is working alongside the Department of Energy, Department of Defense and local law enforcement to find answers.<\/p>\n<p>A prominent case involves William \u201cNeil\u201d McCasland, a 68-year-old retired Air Force major general and adviser to the Sandia National Laboratory. The labs are federally funded and responsible for engineering the nation\u2019s nuclear weapons stockpile.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1068\">Trump signs order creating voluntary cybersecurity for AI models before their release<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Bernalillo County Sheriff\u2019s Office in New Mexico is responsible for the search for Mr. McCasland and part of the broader investigation searching for employees, joined by other state and federal investigators.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Casias, described as an administrative employee at Los Alamos, is one of at least four people directly connected to the two national laboratories who have gone missing in the last 18 months.<\/p>\n<p>A nuclear physicist and MIT professor was also fatally shot outside his Massachusetts home last year. Another aerospace engineer disappeared during a hike in Los Angeles.
