Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner was heckled Tuesday for sexual depravity and called a \u201cfreak\u201d when he arrived at a meeting of Senate Democrats on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n

A chorus of 30 protesters jeered the presumptive Democratic nominee in Maine about the hookup app KiK \u2014 a site known for facilitating teen hookups \u2014 when he was in his 30s.<\/p>\n

The protesters, who did not identify themselves with a particular organization or political side, gathered outside the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee headquarters on Capitol Hill. They waved signs that read, \u201cDelete your KIK,\u201d \u201cPlatner messaged minors,\u201d \u201cPlatner is a fraud,\u201d and \u201cWhy does Platner still have KIK?\u201d<\/p>\n

They also chanted, \u201cPort-a-potty Platner,\u201d \u201cHey-hey-ho-ho P-Hustle\u2019s got to go,\u201d \u201cGraham shamed Maine,\u201d \u201cDelete your KIK\u201d and \u201cPlatner is a freak.\u201d<\/p>\n

The account used the name Graham Platner and the handle associated with his Reddit and Instagram posts, \u201cPhustle,\u201d and \u201cPhustle0331.\u201d<\/p>\n

Democratic lawmakers who met with Mr. Platner were also heckled by a protester with a bullhorn who asked why Mr. Platner\u2019s KiK account is still active. The protester called out by name Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Sen. Adam Schiff of California and Sen. Edward Markey of Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you ask Graham Platner if he could state unequivocally that he\u2019s never communicated with a minor on Kik?\u201d blared from the bullhorn.<\/p>\n

The KiK profile was created in June 2016, when Mr. Platner was about 31 years old.<\/p>\n

The revelation about the KiK account comes after Amy Platner recorded a video defending her husband and expressing anger at media reports that exposed his sexting with several women.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Platner alerted her husband\u2019s campaign staffers about the sexually explicit texts in the days before the Democrat announced his Senate bid, when the party was scanning his past for any dirt that political opponents might find.<\/p>\n

Mr. Platner was on Capitol Hill to shore up support from his party\u2019s establishment, which opposed his candidacy before he surged in the polls, forcing the establishment\u2019s pick, Maine Gov. Janet Mills, to suspend her Senate campaign.<\/p>\n

It is a marquee race where Democrats have their best shot at flipping a seat. The seat is held by longtime GOP Sen. Susan Collins.<\/p>\n

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer voiced support on Tuesday for Mr. Platner, but refused to address mounting controversies surrounding the candidate.<\/p>\n

Pressed about Mr. Platner\u2019s sexual exploits, Mr. Schumer responded: \u201cI met with Graham Platner today. We\u2019re going to beat Susan Collins and take back the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Platner previously weathered backlash for a Nazi-symbol tattoo on his chest, which he covered up after announcing his Senate run. He has also been blasted for several posts on his now-deleted Reddit account that include topics such as sexual assault and military veterans.<\/p>\n

In 2013, he posted on Reddit: \u201cHow about people just take some responsibility for themselves and not get so f\u2014\u2014- up they wind up having sex with someone they don\u2019t mean to?\u201d<\/p>\n

He also mocked a Purple Heart recipient, calling the wounded soldier a \u201cdumb motherf\u2014\u2014-\u201d who \u201cdidn\u2019t deserve to live.\u201d<\/p>\n

He deemed all police officers \u201cbastards,\u201d agreed with posts calling rural White Mainers \u201cracist and stupid,\u201d and asked, \u201cWhy don\u2019t Black people tip?\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Platner has apologized for the remarks, blaming the \u201cstupid joke comments\u201d on mental health struggles after returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
