President Trump lashed out Sunday at NBC\u2019s \u2018Meet the Press,\u201d calling the news talk show \u201ccrooked\u201d and ending an interview early over questions about recent elections in California.<\/p>\n

In a heated exchange with host Kristen Welker, Mr. Trump reiterated his unsupported claim that the 2020 election was rigged and alleged election fraud in California, citing the state\u2019s multi-day vote-counting process as evidence of cheating.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe [2020] election was rigged. It was a dirty election,\u201d Mr. Trump said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve never presented evidence that the 2020 election was rigged,\u201d Ms. Welker said.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now \u2026 look at what\u2019s happening in California,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n

Ms. Welker asked for evidence and Mr. Trump said that four days had passed since the election and ballots were still being counted.<\/p>\n

Ms. Welker said Republicans were doing well in California, but Mr. Trump said they were not \u201cbecause it\u2019s a rigged election.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two went back and forth, with Ms. Welker asking for evidence until Mr. Trump asked, \u201cDo you think it\u2019s appropriate that they have an election and five days later, they\u2019re nowhere close to picking a winner?\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms. Welker pushed back, noting that the slow vote count is standard practice in California and that Mr. Trump has never presented concrete evidence of fraud.<\/p>\n

\u201cState and local officials acknowledge they are slow\u2026\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, they\u2019re crooked,\u201d Mr. Trump shot back. \u201cThey\u2019re crooked just like you\u2019re crooked, your press is crooked. And \u2018Meet the Press\u2019 is crooked.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms. Welker responded, \u201cTo be fair, I\u2019m not crooked. But let\u2019s continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cReally? Well, you play right into their hands then,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n

Ms. Welker attempted to move along, but Mr. Trump said, \u201cYou\u2019re either crooked or you\u2019re stupid.\u201d<\/p>\n

She tried again to continue to move along, but Mr. Trump excoriated her and her network.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou play right into their hands with this stuff. You know that these elections are rigged. Your network knows that they\u2019re rigged,\u201d he said. \u201cDo you know that I won an election in a landslide and I got 94% bad press.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Trump told Ms. Welker he won in a landslide in 2024 because she and her network \u201chave no credibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

The exchange grew increasingly tense, with Mr. Trump threatening to end the interview while Ms. Welker attempted to keep things on track, reminding him she traveled to Wisconsin for the interview.<\/p>\n

Mr. Trump ultimately signaled that he wanted to end the interview, citing the amount of time he had already given her. He ended the interview early as Ms. Welker asked him to stay longer.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re like a third-world country,\u201d the president said. \u2018You\u2019re a one-sided, crooked network. Sorry. Let\u2019s call it quits because I\u2019ve had enough. Thank you, darling. Have a good time.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the interview, which was recorded on Friday, Mr. Trump joined his supporters at a rally in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and told them how angry he had become with NBC.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo. I just did an interview in the most beautiful barn I\u2019ve ever seen. It was a beauty. It was raining and it was with NBC Fake News. And because it was raining, I got a little bit angry at them. I was not happy with them,\u201d he said. \u201cBut we had a good time.\u201d<\/p>\n
