{"id":1447,"date":"2026-06-07T18:40:23","date_gmt":"2026-06-07T18:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1447"},"modified":"2026-06-07T18:40:23","modified_gmt":"2026-06-07T18:40:23","slug":"chernobyl-storage-facility-hit-by-russia-in-exchange-of-attacks-after-proposed-ceasefire-is-rejected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1447","title":{"rendered":"Chernobyl storage facility hit by Russia in exchange of attacks after proposed ceasefire is rejected"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>A Russian drone hit a nuclear storage facility near Chernobyl on Sunday, after Ukraine conducted strikes on Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s hometown.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1445\">GOP senators push new legislation to incentivize states to clean up voter rolls<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a one-way Russian attack drone damaged the \u201ccentralized spent fuel storage facility\u201d near Chernobyl, calling it \u201cextremely critical infrastructure\u201d in a social media post early Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Russia has not publicly acknowledged the strike.<\/p>\n<p>Noting the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster this year, Mr. Zelenskyy said Russian strikes in the area amounted to \u201cnuclear terrorism\u201d and attacks with one-way drones were \u201creckless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Zelenskyy said radiation readings after the strike did not exceed \u201cnormal background radiation levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The International Atomic Energy Agency said in a statement that the strike did cause \u201csignificant damage\u201d to the building. A team was dispatched to the site for investigation, according to the agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAttacks on nuclear sites are completely unacceptable and in direct contravention of key nuclear safety principles,\u201d the IAEA said.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote that Russia\u2019s attacks near the plant were \u201csystemic, deliberate and unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chernobyl strike came one day after Ukraine unleashed a barrage at the end of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Ukraine targeted oil terminals and naval bases along the coast of the Baltic Sea.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s Defense Ministry said its air defenses shot down 376 Ukrainian drones on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the forum earlier last week, Mr. Putin said Russia would strengthen its air defenses to counter Ukrainian drone attacks. Saturday\u2019s attack was the second on St. Petersburg in a week, after an earlier attack that ignited a fire at an oil terminal.<\/p>\n<p>The exchange of attacks comes after Mr. Putin rejected an offer by Mr. Zelenskyy for a ceasefire and peace talks that would include a face-to-face meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Zelenskyy offered the ceasefire publicly, posting his letter to Russia online. The letter proposed possible direct negotiations hosted by third-party countries.
