Chris Smith of New Jersey, and Rep. Josh Brecheen and Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma led 16 GOP lawmakers in sending a letter to Mr. Zeldin urging the addition of mifepristone to the agency\u2019s sixth Contaminant Candidate List (CCL 6), which identifies contaminants in public water systems that are not currently subject to regulation.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican lawmakers underscored the dangerous, adverse effects of mifepristone on women\u2014impacting nearly 11% of women \u2014 and said there is a well-founded concern that mifepristone may be contaminating \u00a0public water systems and posing serious environmental and public health threats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition to killing unborn babies and threatening the well-being or lives of their mothers, Mifepristone has the potential to impact our national water system, a danger that was acknowledged by the Food and Drug Administration thirty years ago,\u201d the lawmakers wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 1996, the FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) claimed that adverse environmental effects from mifepristone were \u2018not anticipated,\u2019 but acknowledged that \u2018[m]ifepristone may enter the environment from excretion by patients, from disposal of pharmaceutical waste, or from emissions from manufacturing sites,\u2019\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1758\">More Minnesota fraud uncovered<\/a><\/p>\n<p>They argue the drug poses serious risks to women, stating that \u201cmore than one out of ten (10.93%) women who take this dangerous pill experience sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging or another serious adverse event within 45 days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the use of mifepristone has risen, its impact on drinking water should be closely researched and monitored,\u201d the lawmakers asserted.<\/p>\n<p>The Republicans asked the EPA to add mifepristone to CCL 6 to \u201cdetermine whether the active metabolites that enter our Nation\u2019s water system through mifepristone abortions threaten access to our safe drinking water\u201d and study \u201cwhether the level of mifepristone present in the Nation\u2019s water system is significant enough to cause endocrine disruption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter comes at a time when the FDA is moving forward on a safety study of mifepristone that will be an analysis of hundreds of thousands of cases, with interim results potentially released in July.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1756\">We must do more to prevent and end wars<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A group of Republican lawmakers from the House and Senate are asking Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin to add a chemical abortion drug to the list of contaminants in public water systems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":667,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6,7],"tags":[1219,45,1220,1222,1221],"class_list":["post-1761","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-politics","tag-chris-smith","tag-environmental-protection-agency","tag-james-lankford","tag-josh-brecheen","tag-lee-zeldin"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
