{"id":1824,"date":"2026-06-12T19:06:32","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T19:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1824"},"modified":"2026-06-12T19:06:32","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T19:06:32","slug":"obama-appointed-judge-refuses-to-block-trumps-ufc-fight-at-white-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1824","title":{"rendered":"Obama-appointed judge refuses to block Trump\u2019s UFC fight at White House"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>A federal judge denied a lawsuit filed by two Virginia residents seeking to stop this weekend\u2019s UFC fight on the White House lawn, ruling that the two won\u2019t be affected by the event.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1822\">Bernie Sanders pulls Democratic Party hard left as his primary picks rack up wins<\/a><\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta, who was appointed by President Obama, said the two have no right to challenge the fight because they couldn\u2019t prove the event would harm them.<\/p>\n<p>The two claimants, activist Susan Douglas and Vietnam War veteran Paul Romano, argued that the use of the White House and Lincoln Memorial as a backdrop for the fights would cause them \u201caesthetic\u201d and \u201cprocedural harms\u201d as a result of the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRomano does not assert \u2019concrete plans to be near the South Lawn of the White House,\u201d Judge Mehta wrote. \u201cOnly a serendipitous rideshare trip would place him in a position to see the Claw on the night of the fights. A \u2019threatened injury must be certainly impending to constitute injury in fact.\u2019 Romano\u2019s allegations do not meet that threshold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judge Mehta also wrote that the claimants failed to explain how their interests and potential harms would outweigh those of everyone else involved in making the fight happen.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote that the fight organizers \u201cpoint to the nearly yearlong planning of the event; coordination with multiple government agencies, including the Secret Service, site work that began May 20 and has involved between 700 and 900 workers; multiple equipment deliveries; event ticketing logistics and preparations of the contracted UFC fighters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then there is the $60 million that the UFC and UFC-affiliated organizations have expended to put on the event,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThe potential loss of those dollars resulting from a last-minute, court-ordered stoppage cannot be ignored.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1821\">Top Pakistani mediator says U.S.-Iran deal is close to completion<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Judge Mehta also criticized the claimants for waiting until earlier this week to file their lawsuit, noting that the event had been planned last fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlaintiffs\u2019 unreasonable delay in filing suit, though not dispositive, undercuts their claim of irreparable harm,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The District of Columbia-based judge\u2019s decision eliminated a potential last-minute obstacle to the fight occurring.
