{"id":1830,"date":"2026-06-12T20:39:19","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T20:39:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1830"},"modified":"2026-06-12T20:39:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T20:39:19","slug":"judge-rejects-bid-to-keep-trumps-name-on-kennedy-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1830","title":{"rendered":"Judge rejects bid to keep Trump\u2019s name on Kennedy Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>A federal judge denied a last-ditch effort to stop the removal of President Trump\u2019s name from the Kennedy Center while the appeals process plays out.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1828\">IRS overpaying supervisors to do grunt work after Trump budget cuts: Inspector general<\/a><\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper issued a brief order Friday saying that the Trump administration had not made \u201ca strong showing that [they] are likely to succeed on the merits\u201d of an appeal or proved they would be irreparably harmed if their motion was denied.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Cooper, an Obama appointee, said the Kennedy Center had already taken \u201csubstantial\u201d steps to comply with his May order to remove Mr. Trump\u2019s name from the performing arts center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese efforts undermine the notion that defendants face irreparable harm in complying with the order in full,\u201d he wrote. \u201cWhat\u2019s more, issuance of a stay pending appeal would not be in the public interest, which is rarely served by the \u2019perpetuation\u2019 of \u2019unlawful\u2019 government action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Kennedy Center, run by a board of trustees appointed by Mr. Trump, voted in December to add the president\u2019s name to the institution, rebranding it as the Trump-Kennedy Center. It is the premier performing arts venue in Washington and was established by Congress as a memorial to President Kennedy.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=1826\">Ohio poised to add photo ID requirements for mail-in voting<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A Democratic member of Congress who sits on the board challenged the renaming in court. Judge Cooper ruled in May that only Congress could approve the name change and set a July 12 deadline to comply with his order.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers for the Kennedy Center earlier this month instructed staff to immediately begin the process of switching the name back to its original title. The Kennedy Center\u2019s website removed Mr. Trump\u2019s name from most of its online material.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump took over the Kennedy Center last year, removing Democratic-appointed members and installing allies in their place. He has also made changes and sought to renovate the facility.
