A woman died from her injuries after a tree along the Matthew Henson Trail in Aspen Hill fell on her during storms on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The tree fell in an area of the trail near Hewitt Avenue at around 9 p.m. Thursday, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue public information officer Pete Piringer said in a video posted on social media. The victim was pinned, critically injured and ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

Mr. Piringer also noted that the victim had a leadership role in a local volunteer fire department, saying that \u201cwe too are grieving at this loss to our community.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added that her family asked for privacy and that county fire officials would not be releasing any more information on the incident.<\/p>\n

The Maryland-National Capital Park Police said in a statement that \u201cour thoughts and condolences are with the victim\u2019s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time,\u201d according to WRC-TV.<\/p>\n

A portion of the Matthew Henson Trail between Ducket Drive and Rippling Brook Drive is closed until next Thursday due to storm damage. A cleanup event is scheduled for next Saturday between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., according to the Montgomery Parks website.<\/p>\n
