Comedian Bill Maher and Vice President J.D. Vance disagree on a host of issues, but the liberal talk-show host gave the Republican props for appearing on his show \u2014 and dinged key Democrats for ducking him.<\/p>\n

Mr. Maher said former Vice President Kamala Harris, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani are among the Democratic Party stars taking a pass on his popular HBO talk show, \u201cReal Time With Bill Maher.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the studio audience welcomed Mr. Vance, Mr. Maher quipped, \u201cDo I have the nicest crowd?\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Vance joked: \u201cI\u2019m sure it\u2019s the only applause I\u2019ll get, but I\u2019ll take it.\u201d<\/p>\n

That prompted Mr. Maher to name names.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just glad you\u2019re talking to me, you know,\u201d he said. \u201cI mean, I say it every time, when the Republicans come here, they take their beating like a man. It\u2019s the people I vote for, they\u2019re the ones who won\u2019t talk to me. It\u2019s odd, isn\u2019t it?\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Vance agreed: \u201cIt is very odd.\u201d<\/p>\n

The vice president has shown he has no fear of unfriendly media outlets as he promotes his new book, \u201cCommunion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ten days ago, he ran the gauntlet of leftist feminists on ABC\u2019s \u201cThe View,\u201d charming co-host Joy Behar to the point where colleague Sunny Hostin accused her of being \u201cin love with J.D. Vance.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Friday\u2019s show, Mr. Vance asked Mr. Maher if he planned to invite \u201cthis new woman who was elected to New York,\u201d apparently referring to Darializa Avila Chevalier, the far-left activist who upset Rep. Adriano Espaillat in Tuesday\u2019s Democratic congressional primary.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you think she\u2019ll come on the show?\u201d asked Mr. Vance.<\/p>\n

Mr. Maher replied: \u201cNo, I can\u2019t get AOC, I can\u2019t get Mamdani, I couldn\u2019t get Kamala Harris.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that it took eight years to convince former President Barack Obama to sit for an interview. Mr. Obama appeared on the show in November 2016.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyway, let\u2019s not talk about my problem,\u201d said Mr. Maher. \u201cAnd I promise this is going to be a lot easier than talking to the Iranians. Or even more, \u2018The View.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Cracked Mr. Vance: \u201cThe question is whether it\u2019s harder than \u2018The View.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

One reason Democrats may be avoiding Mr. Maher is that he\u2019s not on board with the party\u2019s increasingly socialist, anti-Israel bent.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf this is where the Democratic Party is going \u2014 this obsession with Israel, with the Jew-hating, they don\u2019t believe in capitalism, no prisons \u2014 if this is where they\u2019re going, my vote is in play,\u201d Mr. Maher told the veep.<\/p>\n

Not all Democrats are steering clear of Mr. Maher. Another guest on Friday\u2019s show was Sen. Raphael Warnock, Georgia Democrat.<\/p>\n

The vice president\u2019s spiritual memoir \u201cCommunion,\u201d the story of his journey from Christianity to atheism to his conversion to Catholicism, soared to the top of the Amazon bestseller list after its June 16 release.<\/p>\n
