OPINION:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The California Democratic Socialists of America announced its support for billionaire Tom Steyer in the governor\u2019s race. Umm. Does anybody else see what\u2019s wrong with that picture?<\/p>\n

Socialists are such hypocrites.<\/p>\n

Even the socialists admit it.<\/p>\n

From the World Socialist Web Site, WSWS.Org: \u201cThere is no mystery to solve. Steyer is not \u2018a class traitor.\u2019 He is a conscious representative of the capitalist class. He does not propose the abolition of capitalism, the expropriation of the billionaires, workers\u2019 control of production or the building of a socialist movement.\u201d<\/p>\n

But he does have a whole lotta money.<\/p>\n

And socialists like to pretend they\u2019re above such things \u2014 that money doesn\u2019t matter so much as equality, or rather, equity; and that money doesn\u2019t matter so much as fair opportunity for all, or rather, government redistribution and control of resources. But in the end, they all want to be part of the 1 percent.<\/p>\n

They just want, at the same time, to be seen as po\u2019 regular folk.<\/p>\n

On Sen. Bernard Sanders, The Street wrote: \u201cWhile he rages against billionaires, the outspoken Democratic Socialist and political icon is actually part of \u2018the 1 percent\u2019\u201d with a 2025 net worth in the millions.<\/p>\n

On Rep. Ilhan Omar, IMDb wrote: \u201cRep. Ilhan Omar and Husband\u2019s Net Worth Surges 3500 percent in One Year, Could Be As High As $30 Million.\u201d Then again \u2014 that could be an accounting error. She may have meant to say $30,000. Regardless, Omar is the same who introduced legislation years ago to implement a 60 percent tax on billionaires to pay for healthcare for others.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is shameful that billionaires profit off the suffering of working families,\u201d the Minnesota Democrat said back then, in August of 2020.<\/p>\n

By \u201cshameful,\u201d of course, socialists mean, \u201cgimme some.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNoam Chomsky, Closet Capitalist,\u201d wrote Hoover Digest in 2006, about the noted far-leftist intellectual who made a living \u2014 quite a living, by dollars\u2019 count \u2014 condemning the free market.<\/p>\n

From the Hoover Institution piece: \u201cOne of the most persistent themes in Noam Chomsky\u2019s work has been class warfare. He has frequently lashed out against the \u2018massive use of tax havens\u2019 \u2026 and criticized the concentration of wealth in \u2018trusts\u2019 by the wealthiest 1 percent. \u2026 But trusts can\u2019t be all bad. After all, Chomsky, with a net worth north of $2,000,000, decided to create one for himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now comes Steyer. Now comes hedge fund manager Steyer with his millions upon millions upon millions of dollars; with his estimated $2.4 billion, actually \u2014 enough money that he should be despised by socialists.<\/p>\n

But socialists just want to win, and they know it takes money to win. They may believe it\u2019s impossible to \u201cearn a billion dollars,\u201d as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, New York Democrat, just said. But they also apparently believe it\u2019s quite OK to tap into that billion, when it benefits the socialist cause.<\/p>\n

\u201cSteyer is not the only Democrat testing the party\u2019s appetite for a populist from the 1 percent,\u201d The Guardian wrote. \u201cIn Illinois, Governor J.B. Pritzker, a scion of the Pritzker family that founded the Hyatt hotel chain, is running for a third term.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then there\u2019s Ocasio-Cortez\u2019s former chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, a wealthy tech businessman funding his own attempt to secure Rep. Nancy Pelosi\u2019s seat; then there\u2019s San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, of Levi Strauss family fortune fame, who was sworn in office in January of 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Geesh, the list of capitalistic-hating multimillionaire politicians is long.<\/p>\n

It just goes to show: socialists \u2014 which is to say today\u2019s Democrats \u2014 are among the most deceptive, hypocritical, opportunistic people on the planet.\u00a0<\/p>\n
