The new \u201cSupergirl\u201d movie got hit by kryptonite.<\/p>\n

So far, the box office has been abysmal. Apparently, Hollywood learned nothing from last year\u2019s reboot of \u201cSnow White.\u201d Thumbing your nose at middle-class moviegoers is a recipe for disaster.<\/p>\n

Between production costs and its advertising budget, \u201cSupergirl\u201d would need to gross $450 million to $500 million globally just to break even. So far, it is on track for a loss of up to $200 million.<\/p>\n

Lex Luthor, the nemesis of Supergirl\u2019s cousin, must be dancing for joy.<\/p>\n

By contrast, the low-budget\/little-marketed patriotic \u201cYoung Washington\u201d could be the surprise hit of the summer. The producers are already planning a sequel.<\/p>\n

In a pre-release publicity tour, \u201cSupergirl\u201d lead actress Milly Alcock made the usual bizarre comments designed to offend, claiming that audiences felt \u201cownership\u201d of her body and that her character might be bisexual.<\/p>\n

\u201cSupergirl\u201d is following the trajectory of last year\u2019s live-action \u201cSnow White.\u201d Its star, Rachel Zegler, said Prince Charming of the original animated version \u201cliterally stalks\u201d Snow White.<\/p>\n

In the updated version, the fairy tale princess is \u201cnot going to be saved by the prince, and she\u2019s not going to be dreaming about true love.\u201d<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve gone from the Oscars of the 1980s, where activist celebrities sported AIDS buttons, to today\u2019s showbiz homage to Palestine.<\/p>\n

Hollywood\u2019s propaganda machine works overtime to convince us that businessmen and Republicans are evil, white racism is everywhere, and America is a force for evil in the world.<\/p>\n

Hollywood elites would be well advised to see the 1941 Preston Sturges film \u201cSullivan\u2019s Travels.\u201d In it, a celebrated director who wants to make \u201cmessage movies\u201d decides to get in touch with humanity by traveling as a bum. He discovers that the common man wants to be entertained, not activated.<\/p>\n
