President Trump said Sunday that the U.S. hit Iran \u201cvery hard\u201d Saturday night after the regime attacked a ship with a drone.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a deal with them yesterday. They were giving up everything,\u201d Mr. Trump said of Iranian leaders when asked about the status of the Strait of Hormuz on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen, all of a sudden, two hours after that, they hit a ship with a drone. And I said, \u2018These people, there\u2019s something wrong with them,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The president used most of his interview to speak about Sen. Lindsey Graham, who died suddenly Saturday night after speaking with Mr. Trump on the phone. Mr. Trump did not talk much about the activity in the Strait of Hormuz, saying it is \u201copen as far as we\u2019re concerned,\u201d despite Tehran declaring otherwise.<\/p>\n

U.S. Central Command said Sunday the Strait of Hormuz is open to all vessels seeking to \u201clawfully transit\u201d and insisted that Iran does not control the waterway, despite recent strikes on commercial ships.<\/p>\n

CENTCOM, which oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East, posted on social media that its \u201cforces are positioned and prepared to ensure that freedom of navigation remains available despite unwarranted Iranian aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

\u201cIran does not control the strait. Traffic is flowing,\u201d CENTCOM posted on X.<\/p>\n

Mr. Trump followed up CENTCOM\u2019s comments later Sunday, telling NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press\u201d that the strait is open for commercial traffic.<\/p>\n

He added that Tehran agreed to a peace deal that included \u201cno nuclear, no this, no that, no nothing,\u201d after the U.S. military attacked Iran overnight.<\/p>\n
