At the time, the motive had not yet been determined.<\/p>\n<p>British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said Monday that counterterrorism police are leading the inquiry as a result of \u201cnew information and evidence\u201d into Ms. Widdecombe\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe police are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to establish the motive for this attack,\u201d Ms. Mahmood posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>The detained man, who has not been identified, was re-arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism, British law enforcement officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Laurence Taylor, head of National Counter Terrorism Policing, said the investigation will build on the work begun by Devon &amp; Cornwall police.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=4120\">Conservative groups seek Justice Elena Kagan\u2019s recusal from \u2018climate lawfare\u2019 case<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur priority is progressing this investigation quickly, with all the capabilities we have available to us,\u201d Mr. Taylor said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Widdecombe served in Parliament as a Conservative Party member for more than 20 years. A prominent Eurosceptic, she later represented the Brexit Party in the European Parliament before joining Reform UK, which called her \u201cthe most significant woman in British politics since Margaret Thatcher.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf anyone can be said to have changed politics for good, it was Ann Widdecombe,\u201d Reform party officials posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Widdecombe had a second career on TV and radio after stepping down from Parliament.
