{"id":4231,"date":"2026-07-15T17:38:30","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T17:38:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=4231"},"modified":"2026-07-15T17:38:30","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T17:38:30","slug":"blanche-says-jan-6-defendants-who-assaulted-police-deserved-prosecution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=4231","title":{"rendered":"Blanche says Jan. 6 defendants who assaulted police deserved prosecution"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said Wednesday that those who assaulted police officers when they stormed the U.S. Capitol in 2021 deserved to have been prosecuted.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=4230\">Ellen Burstyn to receive lifetime achievement award at the Venice film festival<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He also assured senators that President Trump\u2019s anti-weaponization payout fund is dead, has not made any payments and won\u2019t do so.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was making that commitment under oath.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m doing it right now,\u201d Mr. Blanche said.<\/p>\n<p>He was testifying in his confirmation hearing to be the full attorney general, where the events of Jan. 6 and the continuing fallout loomed large.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Blanche repeatedly said the $1.776 billion weaponization fund, created as part of a settlement between Mr. Trump and his own administration after an IRS contractor leaked his secret tax information, is now defunct.<\/p>\n<p>He brushed aside the demands of senators to revoke the settlement as part of the lawsuit, instead suggesting Congress pass legislation to ban the fund under federal law.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=4228\">Erica Schwartz\u2019s CDC confirmation hearing spotlights anti-vaccine concerns<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He even promised to assist in crafting the language.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not object to that path,\u201d he told the Senate Judiciary Committee.<\/p>\n<p>More than 1,500 people were charged in connection with the mob intrusion at the Capitol, and more than a thousand were convicted and sentenced before Mr. Trump issued a blanket pardon, shutting down the cases and freeing those still behind bars.<\/p>\n<p>Several hundred of the defendants were charged with assaulting police, and hundreds more with obstructing or interfering with officers.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Blanche said the decision to pardon them was Mr. Trump\u2019s, and he declined to criticize the president for exercising his power under the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>When pressed by Sen.
