Sen. John Fetterman threatened to leave the Democratic Party if it becomes the \u201canti-Israel party,\u201d in another move to distance himself from his left-leaning colleagues.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although the Pennsylvania Democrat said he has \u201cno plans\u201d to leave the Democratic Party, he drew the line on leaving Israel without U.S. support.<\/p>\n

Mr. Fetterman said at The Hill Nation Summit on Wednesday that he is \u201cnever changing\u201d his party, except for \u201cthat one condition.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they put that in our platform \u2014 no aid for Israel \u2014 and officially become the anti-Israel party, then yeah, that\u2019s a red line for me,\u201d he told NBC News on Thursday. \u201cDemocrats, we\u2019ve always should support Israel. That\u2019s our special ally, you know? In the only democracy in the entire region, that\u2019s Israel. So I\u2019m always proud to stand with Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n

He clarified that his line is \u201cif the Democratic Party officially says, \u2018Israel is the problem, Israel doesn\u2019t deserve to exist, and I\u2019m never going to support aid, and I\u2019m not going to call out Hamas and Hezbollah and Iran as terrorists, and they are the problem in the region.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

As Democrats eye a Republican upset in November\u2019s midterm election to secure the Senate majority, Mr. Fetterman\u2019s potential act of defiance to ditch his caucus could disrupt the party\u2019s chance to regain control.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if we flip those four seats, then I would be 51, and \u2026 watch what I do,\u201d he said Wednesday. \u201cI\u2019m the guy that would be there that 51 as the committed Democrat.\u201d<\/p>\n

He did not say that he would join the GOP or switch to an independent and continue to caucus with Democrats. He did acknowledge, however, that he has been approached by Republicans about leaving the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n

The Middle Eastern nation has driven a rift in the Democratic Party, as Israel critics threaten to unseat incumbents who have shown unconditional support for the Jewish State. This dynamic has emerged at the polls, as a majority of Democratic voters \u2014 and a growing share of independents \u2014 now express more sympathy for Palestinians and skepticism about Israel, even as Americans overall remain roughly split on the question.<\/p>\n

An amendment to cut off U.S. aid to Israel sponsored by Rep. Thomas Massie, Kentucky Republican, garnered support from 103 House Democrats.<\/p>\n

Although Republicans overwhelmingly opposed the measure and it failed, Mr. Fetterman cited the vote as a reflection of a broader party trend.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou look at the kinds of individuals that are winning our recent primaries,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s becoming more anti-, anti-Israel and hostile to people\u201d who are pro-Israel.<\/p>\n
