{"id":4635,"date":"2026-07-21T17:38:26","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T17:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=4635"},"modified":"2026-07-21T17:38:26","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T17:38:26","slug":"house-speaker-endorses-bipartisan-push-to-ban-sexual-relations-between-lawmakers-capitol-hill-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=4635","title":{"rendered":"House speaker endorses bipartisan push to ban sexual relations between lawmakers, Capitol Hill staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>House Speaker Mike Johnson said Tuesday he would back a bipartisan effort to ban lawmakers from engaging in sexual relations with congressional staff.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=4633\">New Jersey finds 6,600 noncitizens registered to vote and hundreds voting<\/a><\/p>\n<p>House ethics rules bar members from having such relations with their own staff but do not prevent lawmakers from pursuing other aides on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n<p>A bipartisan task force seeking to overhaul House sexual misconduct rules and reporting processes is looking to change that \u2014 and the speaker is endorsing the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Johnson said he does not believe members of Congress should engage in romantic relations with any Hill staff, given the power dynamics at play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should at a bare minimum in Congress have rules and traditions that are adhered to in corporate America,\u201d he said. \u201cSo that\u2019s an easy one for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The task force was formed after California Democrat Eric Swalwell and Texas Republican Tony Gonzales resigned from Congress early this year amid allegations of sexual misconduct.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=4631\">Trump threatens Houthis with strikes if they block shipping in Red Sea<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gonzales, who is married, admitted to having an affair with one of his aides in 2024. She later died from self-immolation.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Swalwell denied multiple allegations of sexual harassment, including a claim that he raped a former aide.<\/p>\n<p>Other lawmakers facing allegations remain in Congress.<\/p>\n<p>The House Ethics Committee is investigating Rep. Chuck Edwards, North Carolina Republican, for allegedly fostering a hostile work environment and sexually harassing female aides.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Post reported last week that Arizona Democratic Sen.
