Diana DeGette, a three-decade Democratic incumbent in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>The socialists often prevailed despite opposition from the Democratic Party establishment, including beating several candidates endorsed by House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York.<\/p>\n<p>Socialism has made moderate gains in popularity in recent years, though Americans still overwhelmingly favor capitalism.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010, 36% of Americans said they had a positive view of socialism. By 2025, that number had risen to 39%, according to Gallup.<\/p>\n<p>Americans\u2019 view of capitalism has slipped from 61% positive in 2010, but it still had the backing of a majority (54%) in 2025, said Gallup.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrats\u2019 socialist candidates in New York won running on slogans such as \u201cabolish ICE\u201d and \u201cMedicare for all\u201d and policies such as restricting U.S. aid to Israel, positions that the party\u2019s establishment increasingly embraces.<\/p>\n<p>A few Democratic voices warn that the shift toward socialism could cost the party elections.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a New Jersey Democrat, has accused socialists of wanting to \u201chijack the Democratic Party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Democrats have a big tent. That\u2019s our strength. We embrace a range of ideas \u2014 but there\u2019s no room for anti-American bomb-throwers who oppose our ideas, values, &amp; leaders,\u201d he recently said on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Adam Smith, a Washington Democrat, described the democratic socialist platform as \u201ca significant challenge to our coalition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=5116\">Whaling Museum goes viral for \u2018worst aquarium ever\u2019 T-shirts, totes<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re pushing ideas and agendas that are not popular in this country \u2014 and frankly, not good policy on immigration enforcement, criminal justice, and the basic concept of personal responsibility, accountability and economic opportunity,\u201d he said on CNN.<\/p>\n<p>House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Louisiana Republican, said the primary upsets demonstrate that Mr. Jeffries has lost control of his party to communists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bolshevik takeover of the Democrat Party is in full swing, and communism is on the ballot this November against freedom,\u201d he said at a Capitol Hill press conference.<\/p>\n<p>He described a feud between Mr. Jeffries and socialist icon Sen. Bernard Sanders of Vermont.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re in public war with each other right now, and Bernie Sanders is winning,\u201d said Mr. Scalise. \u201cBernie\u2019s candidates are beating Hakeem\u2019s candidates in Democrat primaries. \u2026 In swing districts it draws an incredibly sharp contrast between our incumbent Republicans \u2026 against these communists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Jeffries shrugged off Republicans\u2019 focus on communists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese people are desperate. They\u2019re flailing all over the place because Republicans have failed to deliver a single thing that makes life better for the American people,\u201d Mr. Jeffries said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t really followed all of the hyperbole that\u2019s come out of Mike Johnson and Steve Scalise and others because I don\u2019t think the American people are taking it seriously. \u2026 This effort to label us as communists is going to fail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Jeffries, who would likely become House speaker if Democrats win the majority, has extended an olive branch to the hard-left candidates who won the New York City primaries.<\/p>\n<p>One of those candidates, Brad Lander, has committed to supporting Mr. Jeffries for speaker.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Greg Casar, a Texas Democrat who leads the House Progressive Caucus and is part of Congress\u2019 far-left \u201cSquad,\u201d scoffed at the communist label.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey tried that against Harry Truman; it didn\u2019t work. They tried that against Barack Obama; it didn\u2019t work. I think if that\u2019s all they\u2019ve got, they\u2019re screwed,\u201d said Mr. Casar.<\/p>\n<p>Rep.
