{"id":5126,"date":"2026-07-28T15:40:40","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T15:40:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=5126"},"modified":"2026-07-28T15:40:40","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T15:40:40","slug":"biden-knew-audio-tapes-reveal-he-talked-of-disclosing-classified-material-for-lucrative-book-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=5126","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Biden knew\u2019: Audio tapes reveal he talked of disclosing classified material for lucrative book deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>Former President Joe Biden is heard on newly released tapes telling a ghostwriter that he was in possession of classified material and was sharing it for his 2017 memoir for which he received an $8 million advance.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=5124\">U.S. kicks off major study of American force posture in Europe<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Biden read classified notes \u201cnearly verbatim\u201d to the writer, Mark Zwonitzer, for the book \u201cPromise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship and Purpose,\u201d which was published a year after Mr. Biden\u2019s two terms as vice president ended and he was contemplating a presidential run.<\/p>\n<p>The 70 hours of recordings released by the House Judiciary Committee this week reveal Mr. Biden acknowledging some of the material, which he removed while serving as vice president and during his time in the Senate, was top secret.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe next thing I have here is classified,\u201d Mr. Biden is heard saying to Mr. Zwonitzer during one of their interviews.<\/p>\n<p>On another recording, Mr. Biden, then the ex-vice president, told Mr. Zwonitzer, \u201cSome of this may be classified, so be careful with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Biden tells Mr. Zwonitzer in another conversation, \u201cThe next thing I have here is, um, this is classified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a fourth conversation about events that took place during his second year as vice president, he tells Mr. Zwonitzer, \u201cI just found all the classified stuff downstairs.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><span>X post<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote><p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/JudiciaryGOP\/status\/2081870951029899712<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div>View post on X<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Mr. Biden also appears to reveal he held onto important documents from the White House, telling Mr. Zwonitzer, \u201cI didn\u2019t want to turn them in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>House Republicans released the tapes following a yearslong legal battle with Mr. Biden, who sought to keep the audio private.<\/p>\n<p>The tapes were used by then-special counsel Robert Hur in his 2024 investigation of Mr. Biden\u2019s possession of classified documents.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=5122\">Trump says he doesn\u2019t need Israel\u2019s help in dealing with Iran\u2019s Pickaxe Mountain<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The documents were discovered at Mr. Biden\u2019s Delaware home and in an office at his Washington think tank.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the material was found in a damaged box in his garage. The stash of material dated as far back as the 1980s, during his time in the Senate, which means he took the documents from a secure room in the Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Biden, at the time of the Hur interview, said he was \u201csurprised to learn\u201d that classified material was in his office and said he did not know what was in the documents.<\/p>\n<p>After listening to the tapes, Mr. Hur noted Mr. Biden\u2019s significant memory lapses and cited those in his decision not to charge the president, despite determining that Mr. Biden\u2019s mishandling of the documents, which included the Obama administration\u2019s foreign policy and military decisions regarding Afghanistan, \u201cpresent serious risks to national security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Biden can be heard on the tapes struggling to remember things from a year or two earlier and losing track of conversations. He admits, \u201cI\u2019m confused\u201d as he tries to recall events at a 2015 conference in Munich with then-Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and is heard losing his train of thought as he\u2019s about to ask a question: \u201cI was going to ask you something else. Uhhh. Ummm. Oh gosh. I can\u2019t think what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Mr. Hur declined to prosecute Mr. Biden for illegally possessing and storing the classified documents, the Justice Department, under Mr. Biden, prosecuted former President Trump for taking and storing classified information at his Mar-a-Lago home following his first term in the White House.<\/p>\n<p>In an unprecedented move, the FBI raided Mr. Trump\u2019s residence and confiscated the material in 2022. Special counsel Jack Smith in 2023 charged the ex-president with mishandling classified material.
