{"id":736,"date":"2026-05-28T21:08:49","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T21:08:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=736"},"modified":"2026-05-28T21:08:49","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T21:08:49","slug":"bessent-says-irs-and-fbi-investigation-into-antifa-has-made-substantial-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=736","title":{"rendered":"Bessent says IRS and FBI investigation into antifa has made \u2018substantial progress\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed Thursday that a joint IRS-FBI investigation into the funding networks behind antifa has made \u201csubstantial progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=734\">Egypt\u2019s religious freedom tradition an asset to America, the world<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bessent signaled that new IRS guidance on nonprofit tax filings will hold grant-making organizations legally responsible if their recipients engage in violent or rights-suppressing activity.<\/p>\n<p>The Treasury Department began working with the FBI in October to investigate who is funding antifa, which President Trump has described as a \u201cmilitant anarchist organization.\u201d The regulatory move could expose major left-wing donor networks to federal scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made substantial progress and I think in the weeks and months ahead we are going to have a lot to report &amp;hellip ;the IRS is now giving guidance on the Form 990, which nonprofits have to file, and we are going to encourage or demand that nonprofits know their grant recipients,\u201d Mr. Bessent told reporters in the White House briefing room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, if a grant recipient is violent, if they are suppressing people\u2019s rights, then you are responsible for that,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I think that\u2019s a very good first step.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Treasury Department and the FBI launched their investigation into antifa following Mr. Trump\u2019s September 2025 executive order on domestic terrorism, which was initiated by a series of high-profile events, including the assassination of prominent conservative activist Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the FBI-IRS joint probe, the deputy attorney general\u2019s office has established a task force that investigates the funding of antifa-linked groups. U.S. attorney offices were also asked to appoint a domestic terrorism coordinator.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/homebuyerrelocation.com\/?p=732\">New Yorkers finally fed up with Mamdani<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The executive order declared antifa a \u201cmilitant anarchist organization\u201d that seeks to overthrow the U.S. government, law enforcement, and the rule of law through violence and terrorism, and formally designates antifa a \u201cdomestic terrorist organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The order also describes antifa\u2019s activities as including armed standoffs with federal authorities, organized riots, violent assaults on ICE and other officers, doxxing and threats against political figures, and the recruitment and radicalization of young Americans for political violence.<\/p>\n<p>It also highlights antifa\u2019s alleged concealment of its operatives and funding sources, and coordination with allied groups to suppress lawful political activity.<\/p>\n<p>Three days after the executive order, on Sept. 25, 2025, Mr. Trump issued a national security memorandum which tasked major federal agencies to \u201cinvestigate, prosecute, and disrupt entities and individuals engaged in acts of political violence and intimidation\u201d and to \u201cdisrupt financial networks that fund domestic terrorism and political violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The order directs executive departments and agencies to \u201cutilize all applicable authorities to investigate, disrupt and dismantle any and all illegal operations \u2014 especially those involving terrorist actions \u2014 conducted by antifa or any person claiming to act on behalf of antifa,\u201d including investigatory and prosecutorial actions against those who fund such operations.<\/p>\n<p>The memo and the antifa executive order targeted the tax-exempt status of foundations funding civil society groups.
