As a wave of concert cancellations for America\u2019s 250th anniversary celebrations is upsetting President Trump to the point that he\u2019s considering giving a speech instead.<\/p>\n

Several artists have dropped out of performing at the Freedom 250 concerts, scheduled to take place from June 25 through July \u200c10 \u2060on Washington\u2019s National Mall.<\/p>\n

Singer Morris Day, rapper Young MC, country artist Martina McBride, pop group Milli Vanilli, funk band Commodores and Poison frontman Bret Michaels have withdrawn since the lineup was announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand Artists are getting \u2018the yips\u2019 having to do with their performance on Wednesday,\u201d Mr. Trump said Saturday on social media.<\/p>\n

So he positioned himself as a potential replacement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime, and he does so without a guitar, the man who loves our Country more than anyone else, and the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!), DONALD J. TRUMP, to take the place of these highly paid, Third Rate \u2019Artists,\u2019 and give a major speech, rallying the Country forward like I have done ever since being President!\u201d he posted.<\/p>\n

Three\u00a0singers \u2014 Mr. Michaels, Ms. McBride and Young MC \u2014 all\u00a0criticized how the event was presented to them.<\/p>\n

Mr. Michaels, who withdrew on Friday, said, \u201cUnfortunately, what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of.<\/p>\n

\u201cConcerns have also been raised regarding the safety of my fans, band, crew, family and myself, including threats that are completely unfounded and unforgivable,\u201d he said, adding that he then \u201cmade the difficult decision to step away from this performance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms. McBride said the event \u201cturned out to be misleading,\u201d while Young MC, whose real name is Marvin Young, said performers \u201cwere never told about any political involvement with the event.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd despite the claims by the organizers that the event is non-partisan, SPIN magazine describes it as Trump-backed,\u201d he said on social media.<\/p>\n

Mr. Day said that \u201ccontrary to rumor,\u201d he and his band, the Time, will not perform, adding on social media, \u201cIt\u2019s A No For Me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Milli Vanilli singer Jodie Rocco told The Associated Press that neither she nor any of the other group members were asked to perform.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy sister and I were shocked to see our name, Milli Vanilli, as one of the performers,\u201d Ms. Rocco said.<\/p>\n

Freedom 250, and its flagship \u201cGreat American State Fair\u201d on the National Mall, was born out of the Salute to America 250 Task Force, which the president established via executive order to orchestrate official events for the country\u2019s 250th birthday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe respect the rights of any artist to make their own decisions, and our doors remain open to any performer who wants to be part of honoring 250 years of American freedom, culture, and unity,\u201d Freedom 250 said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Mr. Trump said he doesn\u2019t want \u201cso-called \u2018Artists\u2019 that get paid far too much money, who aren\u2019t happy\u201d to perform.<\/p>\n

C+C Music Factory, Vanilla Ice and Flo Rida remain scheduled to perform.<\/p>\n

The president said he\u2019s \u201cordering my Representatives to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally on Wednesday, Washington, D.C., same time, same location,\u201d with only \u201cGreat Patriots\u201d invited.<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t specify the date of that Wednesday.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
