The agents, working at the Peace Bridge crossing over the Niagara River, found the weed on Tuesday while examining a shipment listed on a manifest as chocolate.
Upon further examination of the truck and trailer, they found 56 boxes containing vacuum-sealed packages, which in turn contained over 1,600 pounds of marijuana, CBP said in a release Friday.
“In this case, it was manifested as a shipment of chocolate. It was sitting, appeared to be sitting, right on top of the regular boxes, and it didn’t look like as the other parts of the shipment did,” CBP Watch Commander Michael Taylor told Buffalo’s WGRZ.

The narcotics would have been worth around $4 million if sold at street value, customs officials said. They did not name anyone associated with the shipment or say whether anyone has been charged with trying to take the marijuana through the U.S.-Canada border crossing.
Customs officials told the TV station that the seized shipment constitutes the largest bust of marijuana at the crossing since 2020.
The Peace Bridge, which connects Buffalo to Fort Erie, Ontario, is one of the busiest land crossings in the northeastern U.S.
