OPINION:
Leftists tell us that when it comes to family life, men have to step up to the plate, do their duty and shoulder their share of the burden. At the same time, they are doing everything they can to eliminate the role of fathers in the lives of their children.

They cannot tell you what a woman is. Their masculine role models include Stanley Kowalski, the brute in “A Streetcar Named Desire,” and bumbling Deputy Barney Fife from “The Andy Griffith Show.”
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is poised to sign a bill changing the terms “mother” and “father” in the state’s family law to “gestating parent” and “non-gestating parent.”
Mother and father exclude those who are offended by biology. So, in New York state, a father is no longer a man but rather a non-gestating parent.
The culture works hard to detach women from men and men from their families.
In “The Godfather,” Don Corleone asks singer Johnny Fontane whether he spends time with his family. Then, “the Don” observes, “A man who doesn’t spend time with his family can never be a real man.” We have somehow forgotten this wisdom.
The left’s efforts to make fatherhood irrelevant are working. In the United States, approximately 1 in 4 children now grow up in a home without a father. The absence of a father makes it more likely that children will do poorly in school and be involved with drugs and crime.
If our survival as a nation depends on marriage, children and family cohesion, then we are heading for the abyss. In 1980, only 6% of 40-year-olds had never been married. By 2021, it was 25%, the highest number ever recorded.
Fertility continues to drop, and the bottom is nowhere in sight. In 1970, the fertility rate — the number of children the average woman has in her lifetime — was 2.48. Today, it is 1.6, well below the replacement rate of 2.1. None of this is an accident.
Karl Marx made the abolition of the family a key component of communism. The left has never wavered from that goal. It wants women to be dependent not on husbands but rather on the state. It wants children raised not by families, but collectively, through public education and mass media.
It has turned education into indoctrination. After 12 years, children from conservative families are radicalized. That is why 62% of Americans ages 18 to 29 have favorable views of socialism.
Now, schools are into gender transitioning. They want to make your son think he is your daughter.

Despite the foregoing, Democrats cannot figure out why they consistently lose the male vote.
In 2024, President Trump got 55% of the men’s vote, up from 50% in 2020. This included 62% of White men, a majority of Hispanic men and 21% of Black men.
In an attempt to understand this, Democrats just spent $20 million on a “strategic plan” to figure out how to speak to men.
I can explain it in a few words and for a lot less money. Do not call fathers “non-gestating parents,” ditch the expression “toxic masculinity,” and stop repeating by rote “believe women” unless, of course, Democrats are involved. Do not tell fathers you want boys competing with their daughters in sports or sharing showers and changing rooms with them.
It would not hurt for Democrats to find better models of masculinity than Texas’ U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico, who says God is nonbinary and that there are six genders, and Maine’s Senate candidate Graham Platner, who has a Nazi tattoo, has sent sexually explicit messages to multiple women and was physically abusive to those he dated, several maintain.
This is an obscene parody of authentic masculinity, which is modeled in the Bible.
It starts with Genesis, which explains the spiritual connection between men and women: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Having children is a commandment, not a choice. “Be fruitful and multiply.”
Jews refer to Abraham as “Abraham our father” — not just as the father of our people but as the man who exemplified the most important attributes of fatherhood. These are compassion, courage and wisdom. The left also hates fatherhood because of its biblical foundation.
George Orwell had it right in “1984.” Language shapes thought. That is why today’s language manipulation (e.g., non-gestating parent) is a threat to our future.
Understanding this is more important than sending a Hallmark card on non-gestating parents day.
