FIFA President Gianni Infantino could be positioned for a new job.
A report published Tuesday said President Trump is pushing for the Swiss-born soccer boss to become the next secretary-general of the United Nations.

The current U.N. head, Portugal’s Antonio Guterres, is stepping down in December. An election will be held to replace him later this year.
Mr. Infantino would have Mr. Trump’s vote in the election, an unnamed source told the New York Post. Neither the White House nor FIFA has publicly commented to confirm or deny the report.
Mr. Infantino has already announced plans to run for reelection as FIFA’s president in March.

The two men developed a strong working relationship in recent years as the U.S. prepared to host this year’s FIFA World Cup, which ended with Spain’s victory over Argentina on Sunday. In December, Mr. Infantino gave Mr. Trump the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize.
Earlier this month, the American president called Mr. Infantino to request a review of U.S. forward Folarin Balogun’s suspension after the World Cup round of 32. His one-match ban was then dropped.
